"M.W., a male student of architecture from Kaiserslautern (FRG), met R.S., a female architect, in 1985 during a stay at what was then known as the University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Weimar (GDR). Later, they fell in love.
On 3 June 1989, they were married at the Weimar Registrar's Office. Four weeks later, without any warning, the East German authorities ordered R.S. to leave the country. She moved to Stuttgart to be with her husband. They are still married and now live in Hamburg, where they run an architects’ office together."
